This is good news, but Nintendo should have done this when the Wii U launched. Instead of having our games and such locked onto the specific Wii U console it should be tied to our NNID.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has told investors that the company will eventually embrace a universal account system sometime in the future. Judging by what Iwata says it sounds like a dedicated account system tied to your digital download purchases won’t be coming anytime soon, but it’s certainly on the cards.
“This is the first step of our efforts to transform customer relationship management from device-based to account-based, namely, consumer-based, through which we aim to establish long-term relationships with individual consumers, unaffected by the lifespans of our systems. Our future platform will connect with our consumers based on accounts, not devices.”
