Dragon Quest 10 and 11 are in development for the NX, the codename for Nintendo’s next gaming system, according to a Square Enix news conference today translated by Kotaku.
Dragon Quest 11, which gets its reveal about an hour into the video, is in development for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS, as well. A Square Enix slide showing platforms showed the New 3ds xl, but it’s unclear if that hardware will be required. A few details for Dragon Quest 11 leaked yesterday ahead of today’s announcement.
Dragon Quest 10, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game, made its debut on Wii in 2012 and then came to Android, 3DS, Wii U and Windows PC.
Square Enix’s announcement, which clocks in at an hour and 40 minutes, discusses all things Dragon Quest — in Japanese — from console to handheld and mobile games. You can watch it in full above.
The late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed the NX’s existence in March, referring to it as a “dedicated game system.” He later said that Nintendo wouldn’t be getting specific details about the NX until 2016. It’s unclear whether Square Enix’s announcement means that this is a plan or if developers already have development kits for Nintendo’s next system.
